BRUNSWICK, MAINE - Senior Ben Wallis (Dover, NH) claimed first place at the Bowdoin Invitational leading the Jumbo team to a second place finish out of ten total teams on Saturday. The Jumbos 59 points were good for a second place finish behind host Bowdoin who finished with 27 points.
Wallis won the event with a time of 25:28.52. Bowdoin runners Nick Saba and James Boeding took second and third places with times of 26:00.23 and 26:08.47. There were a total of 129 runners entered in the event.
The seond Jumbo runner to cross the line would be junior Marshall Pagano (Niskayuna, NY) who finished in 26:51.16 good for a 13th place finish. Following him in 14th place was junior Colin McCrory (Southbury, CT) running a time of 26:52.85 and fellow classmate Greg Hardy (Barnstable, MA) in 15th place with a time of 26:58.79. Wrapping up the point scoring for the Jumbos was rookie Bobby McLaughlin (Westwood, MA) in 16th place with a time of 27:01.32.
In the team standings in third place behind Bowdoin and Tufts was UMass Dartmouth with 103 points, followed by Colby- Sawyer with 127 points, and NESCAC rival Bates with 128 points.
The Jumbos now have a weekend off and then will try to carry the success from this week into the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championship at Franklin Park on October 12.
