NORTHAMPTON – Despite dropping an extremely close first set, the Tufts volleyball team came back to win three sets in a row en route to a 3-1 win over Wellesley at Smith as part of the Hall of Fame Invitational.
The 3-1 (25-27, 25-14, 25-16, 25-23) win was the second win of the tournament for the Jumbos. A 3-0 win over Westfield State opened tournament play for Tufts on Friday night.
Senior tri-captain Jessica Ingrum was the offensive leader turning in 12 kills. Fellow classmates and tri-captains Isabel Kuhel and Hayley Hopper had ten and eight kills, respectively. Sophomore Elizabeth Ahrens finished with eight kills. Junior Kyra Baum ran the Jumbo offense, with 33 assists on the day.
Defensively for the Jumbos, Baum finished with a team high 13 digs while classmate Carolina Berger had 12 digs. Hopper also added 11 digs to her eight kills. Kuhel finished with one solo block and five block assists, and Ingrum also had four block assists. The Jumbos had 11 service aces across the four sets, with first-year Kate Kim leading the way with four.
This was the second match of the tournament for the Jumbos, they were scheduled to take on Brandeis at 5:00 pm to conclude tournament play. The Blue rounded out their tournament play with a match with Bowdoin at Amherst later in the day.
