CLERMONT, FL - Senior catcher Chrissie Massrey had four rbis, including a three-run double in the second inning, as the Tufts softball team won 8-3 over Hamilton College in a Wednesday night 9 pm start.
Massrey's three-run double highlighted a five-run second inning by Tufts. During the frame, junior 2B Gracie Marshall singled and scored, first-year 3B Maggie Hoffman walked and scored, sophomore SS Christina Raso had an rbi walk and scored and junior CF Michelle Cooprider doubled home a run.
Tufts got another great start from senior Lauren Giglio, who went three no-hit, no-walk innings striking out seven. She departed with a 7-0 lead after Tufts added two in the bottom of the third with rbi singles from Raso and Massrey that followed Marshall's lead-off single and a Hamilton error.
The Jumbos would make seven errors of their own in the game, and some led to three unearned runs in the Continental fourth. Becca Ryan had a two-run single in the inning for Hamilton.
Tufts closed the scoring in the fourth when first-year Cassie Ruscz led off with a walk and was doubled home by Hoffman.
Tufts had 11 hits in the game, including three at the top of the order by Cooprider. Marshall finished 2 for 3 with two runs, while Massrey was 2 for 3 with the four rbis and a run. Raso knocked in two runs and first-year Shelby Lipson scored twice. First-year pitcher Jasleen Ghumman had a good two-inning relief stint, allowing no hits and no runs with two K's and a walk.
Kelly Leonard took the loss for Hamilton, giving up nine hits and seven runs (six earned) with two walks in three innings.
