CLERMONT, FL - Senior catcher Jo Clair went 2 for 3 with a double, a home run, four rbis and two runs scored as the Tufts sofball team won 9-1 against Carleton on Thursday in Florida. The Jumbos are now 8-1 on their spring trip.
Tufts had taken a 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the second provided by a sacrifice fly from first-year Maggie Hoffman.
Clair then led the way to four runs in the third and three more in the fourth for Tufts to go ahead 8-0. Her rbi double was in the middle of the third, when junior Gracie Marshall also provided a run-scoring single. Two runs scored on passed balls later in the inning. Clair then launched a three-run home run in the fourth, her fourth of the week.
Junior Allyson Fournier and sophomore Erica County limited Carleton to one run. Fournier gave up two hits and no runs with seven strikeouts in her three innings. County allowed a run unearned and three hits in two innings.
Tufts ended the game in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore SS Christina Raso led off with a single, stole second and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Carleton scored its lone run after two were out in the top of the fifth. Kaitlin Bagley led off with a single, moved to second and third on singles by Madi Emenheiser and Jenny Ramey respectively before scoring on an error.
Marshall joined Clair as leaders of the Tufts production with a 2 for 3 game adding two runs and an rbi. Senior LF Sara Hedtler was 2 for 3 with a run and junior 3B Bri Keenan scored twice.
Ramey had two hits at the top of the Knights order.
