CLERMONT, FL - Junior Allyson Fournier threw a no-hitter, the eighth of her career, leading the Tufts softball team to a 1-0 win over Bethel in Florida on Friday. She walked two and struck out 15 in the outing.
Angie Jackson walked with two outs in the first and Caroline Kivisto earned a base on balls with one out in the second for the Royals. Otherwise, Fournier was perfect and retired the final 14 Bethel batters.
Royals junior Courtney Saurer also pitched quite well, giving up eight hits and the one run with a walk and a strikeout in six innings. Tufts had baserunners in every inning, but wasn't able to get one across home plate until the fifth.
Senior Chrissie Massrey led off with a single to center. She was sacrificed to second by sophomore SS Christina Raso and then took third on a wild pitch. She scored on a single by senior LF Sara Hedtler.
First-year Cassie Ruscz and senior Kayla Holland both went 2 for 3 for Tufts. The Jumbos improved to 9-1 on the spring break trip.
Bethel fell to 5-5.
