Box Score
CLERMONT, FL - Senior pitcher Lauren Giglio went seven innings allowing three hits and no earned runs, and senior catcher Jo Clair finished 2 for 4 with three rbis as the #2 Jumbo softball team improved to 10-1 with an 8-1 victory over Macalester in Florida on Friday.
Giglio, who did not pitch last season, has been a very strong #2 arm on the Tufts pitching staff behind All-American Allyson Fournier. Against the Scots, she allowed singles in the third and fourth innings before a triple by Abby Cox brought home the only run unearned in the sixth.
By that time Tufts led 6-1. They scored five in the fourth inning of Macalester's Brittany Ehmann. Kayla Holland, Christina Raso and Summer Horowitz all singled early in the inning and scored. First-year Cassie Ruscz's two-run single was the key run-producer.
Tufts added a run in the fifth when Raso reached by error, stole second and scored on a single to left by junior CF Michelle Cooprider.
Clair, who had walked with the bases loaded for an rbi in the fourth, hit a two-run single to cap Tufts' offensive output in the seventh.
Raso was 2 for 3 with two runs in the eighth spot of the order for Tufts. Holland finished 2 for 4 with a run, while Hedtler and Horowitz both scored twice.
Ehmann surrendered 10 hits and eight runs (six earned) with five walks and four strikeouts in her seven innings pitched for the Scots.
