Zach Ladwig played at #5 singles and was one of four seniors honored for the Jumbos

MEDFORD – The #28 Tuft's men's tennis team closed out its regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon with a NESCAC showdown with #8 Middlebury. The Panthers proved to be too much for the Jumbos, earning the 6-3 win indoors at the Hirsh Tennis Center.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles play. The win for the Jumbos came at #3 doubles as senior Austin Blau (Roslyn, NY) and sophomore Nick Cary (Brookline, MA) edged the Middlebury duo of Peter Heidrich and Ari Smolyar, 9-7.
At #1 doubles the pair of sophomore Jay Glickman (Chappaqua, NY) and freshman Benjamin Battle (Delray Beach, FL) were topped by the Panther duo of Alex Johnston and Andrew Lebovitz, 8-4. The other win for the visitors came from Brantner Jones and Palmer Campbell, who were able to beat freshman Brad Wong (Granite Bay, CA) and junior Brian Tan (Orinda, CA) at #2 doubles, 8-3.
In singles play the Jumbos were able to take two of the matches. Tan picked up a win at #3 singles, edging the Panther's Campbell, 7-6(3), 1-6, 6-3. Adding another one for the Jumbos at #6 singles, Cary was able to top his Middlebury opponent, Jackson Frons, 6-4, 6-2.
Glickman took the courts at #1 singles, but wasn't able to down Johnston, falling, 6-4, 6-2. At #2 singles Wong won the first set, but wasn't able to hold on for the win against Jones, losing 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. Blau took on Campbell at #4 singles, but ended up losing, 6-1, 6-3. Rounding out the singles line up for the Jumbos at #5 singles was senior Zach Ladwig (Chelmsford, MA) who wasn't able to win against Middlebury's Courtney Mountfield, 6-1, 6-3.
The Jumbos honored four seniors with this being the last home match of the regular season. In addition to Blau and Ladwig, the Jumbos honored seniors Matt Pataro (Miami, FL) and Jake Lazarus (Prospect, KY).
The match wrapped up the regular season for the Jumbos, who are now 9-8 overall with a 4-6 conference mark. They will now wait to see if they will be back in action next weekend at the NESCAC Championships at Bowdoin College.
Middlebury finishes out the regular season at 17-2 with a perfect, 7-0, NESCAC record.
