Tufts moves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Mules drop to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the league. The Jumbos allowed an own-goal in the game, the first goal against the team this fall. Head Coach Martha Whiting's Jumbos have out-scored their early opponents 13-1.
With Tufts' stingy defense so far this fall, giving up an early goal was the last thing Colby wanted to do. However, Farris scored her first of the season off an assist from Carla Kruyff.
In the second half, sophomore Jess Capone hit a header off a bounce to put the Jumbos up 2-0 with her second goal of the season. Brooke Fortin's cross from the right side bounced and Capone was able to score on the run.
Colby got on the scoreboard with about 17 minutes to play on the own goal allowed by the Jumbos making it a one-goal game.
However, first-year Mariah Harvey-Brown continued the great start to her career by scoring her first collegiate goal for the Jumbos with just 1:50 to play. Her high shot from about 20 yards beat diving Colby goalie Emily Brook. She now has a goal and five assists for seven points in three games.
Eileen McGarry was credited with six saves for the Jumbos, while Brook stopped 11 shots for Colby.
Tufts, Bowdoin and Williams are all 2-0 atop the conference standings after one week of play. The Jumbos continue in NESCAC action hosting Wesleyan on Tuesday in a 4:30 start at Kraft Field. Colby hosts University of New England Tuesday at 4.
