MEDFORD – The Tufts women's squash team opened up a NESCAC filled weekend with a match against Colby at Harvard on Saturday afternoon, but the White Mules were too much for the Jumbos and handed them an 8-1 loss. The Jumbos lost to the White Mules earlier in the year, but by a 5-4 score.
First-year Claudia Udolf was the lone Jumbo to win, as she topped Mikaela Johnson in the third position in three games, 11-4, 11-2, 11-7.
Senior tri-captain Ann Bellinger took on Tara Tischio in the fourth position, and the two traded game wins, but it was Tischio that was able to win the fifth game (11-0, 4-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-3). In the second position, classmate and tri-captain Paige Dahlman also lost a tough match. Dahlman won the first game and then lost the second in extra points. After that, her White Mule opponent, Julie Wolpow, moved to a four game win (9-11, 14-12, 11-5, 11-9).
In the fifth position, first-year Lauren Banner also played a four game match, taking the second game from Elizabeth Brehman, but falling 11-3, 9-11, 11-8, 12-10. Junior tri-captain Paget Stanco played a tough match in the first set, with two of the three games going to extra points. She ended up falling to Devin Mullaney, 11-3, 14-12, 13-11.
Sophomore Anna Bezahler took the courts in the sixth position, but she wasn't able to top Madeline Hunsicker (11-6, 11-6, 11-8). In the seventh position, classmate Lynn Cheng faced a similar fate, as she fell in three games to Camilla Cricket Di Galoma (11-7, 11-9, 11-2). Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was Gabi Salomon and Nellie Harvey in the eighth and ninth positions, respectively. But, both Jumbos lost in three games.
Following the match with Colby the Jumbos took on Connecticut College on Sunday afternoon and were able to edge the Camels, 6-3. They will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Williams to compete in the NESCAC Championships.
