Men's Soccer and Bowdoin Tie 0-0 in Rainy Regular Season Finale

Box Score

MEDFORD - Tufts and Bowdoin played to a 0-0 tie in the regular-season finale for both teams at Kraft Field on Wednesday afternoon.

As a result, the teams will meet again in the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Championship on Saturday at Kraft Field. The game time has not yet been announced.

Keeper Scott Greenwood and the defense posted their sixth straight shutout

The Jumbos (9-3-3 overall) finished as the #3 seed in NESCAC with a 5-2-3 record. Bowdoin (7-3-4) is the #6 seed after a 3-3-4 conference mark.

With a steady rain falling, the best scoring chances came in the overtime periods on Wednesday. The Jumbos earned four corner kicks in the first OT, but could not convert one. Both Tufts junior keeper Scott Greenwood and Bowdoin sophomore goalie Stevie Van Siclen had to make two stops in the second OT session.

The best Bowdoin chance came in the second overtime when senior tri-captain Andrew Jones sent a perfect ball to the goal mouth where freshman Levi Morant squatted to put a head on it. However, Greenwood was there to make the save.

Tufts' top opportunity came in the second OT as well with Van Siclen leaping to push a shot by Jumbo senior Jason Kayne over the crossbar. Kayne also had a chance miss just wide late in the first overtime.

Regulation had been largely uneventful. Early in the second half, Jumbo senior Rui Pinheiro had space in front of the Bowdoin goal, but couldn't get a clean touch on a pass. Bowdoin junior Austin Downing's shot from the top of the box 22 minutes into the second half was saved by Greenwood.

The host Jumbos finished with a 17-9 advantage in shots attempted, but the Polar Bears put six on goal to five by Tufts. Greenwood made six saves as the Jumbos posted their sixth consecutive shutout. Tufts has not allowed a goal since October 4, a streak during which they are 4-0-2.

Van Siclen finished with five saves for Bowdoin. The Polar Bears extended their unbeaten streak to five matches (3-0-2).

The Jumbos finished with a 9-7 edge in corners.
