BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Tufts volleyball team dropped a conference match at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears are not the lone undefeated team in the conference, while the Jumbos are now 2-2 in conference play.
Following their match with the Polar Bears, the Jumbos took on Keene State and topped the Owls in three sets. After the day the Jumbos are now 9-4 overall and 2-2 in NESCAC play. Bowdoin sits at the top of the conference standings with a 10-3 mark overall and a perfect 4-0 mark in NESCAC play.
The Jumbos fell two sets to none early, before coming back and winning the third set. That was the first set the Polar Bears had lost at home all season. Despite their best efforts, the Jumbos ended up falling in four sets, 25-21, 25-16, 16-25, 25-14.
Senior co-captain Esme Nulan and junior Elizabeth Ahrens were the offensive leaders for the Jumbos with nine kills a piece. Ahrens also had three blocks and Nulan also had ten digs. Freshman MacKenzie Bright also had eight kills to help the Jumbos offensively. Defensively, sophomore Alex Garrett had 15 digs while first-year Angela Yu had 10 digs. Yu also ran the offense with the help of senior Kyra Baum. Yu finished with 15 assists and Baum had eight.
For the Polar Bears the offensive leader was Christy Jewett who had 19 kills, while Michelle Albright added 13 kills of her own. Katie Doherty anchored the defense with 30 digs, while Albright added 14 digs to her kills from the day. Taking care of the setting for the Polar Bears was Quincy Leech, who finished with 45 assists.
Following the match with the Polar Bears the Jumbos took on Keene State. Following that match the Owls faced off with the Polar Bears with the home team winning in three sets.
The Polar Bears will be back in action on Friday when they host Trinity for an 8 pm match. The Jumbos will take the court again on Wednesday when they host local rival Endicott with a 7 pm scheduled start time.
