| Ty Enos was 20th out of 129 runners at NESCAC's |
MIDDLETOWN, CT - In a competitive NESCAC field featuring seven teams ranked among the national top 35, Tufts Men's Cross Country took third place at the 2015 conference championship Saturday at Wesleyan. Juniors Tim Nichols and Luke O'Connor led the way finishing as the fifth and sixth individuals, respectively.
The Jumbos' first five finishers tallied a total of 99 to comfortably place third. Second-place Amherst scored 61 and conference champion Williams dominated with a 36 score. The Ephs had four of their five scorers finish among the top nine.
In the most recent US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll on October 14. Amherst was the #2 team in the country, Williams was #7, Bates #19, Wesleyan #22, Tufts #24, Colby #29 and Hamilton was #31. By that measure, the Jumbos jumped two teams in their NESCAC finish.
Nichols and O'Connor performed tremendously, finishing back-to-back two seconds apart. Nichols was fifth in 25:08.97 and O'Connor was sixth in 25:10.94. The finishes were the best at the conference race for both.
Tufts also received an outstanding effort from sophomore Ty Enos, who placed 20th out of the 129 runners at the event. He timed 25:57.01 to score third for the Jumbos. Senior co-captains James Traester and Michael Curley rounded out the scoring five for Tufts in 26:19.06 and 26:20.58 times.
Interim head coach Mike Schmidt's Jumbos improved two spots upon their fifth-place finish last year. The Jumbos were also third in 2013.
Tufts races at the 2015 ECAC Championship hosted by Williams next week.
