CAMBRIDGE – Sophomore Claudia Udolf won at the sixth position on Friday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Tufts women's squash team fell to the University of Virginia in their season opener on Friday afternoon. Following the match with the Cavaliers the Jumbos took on Boston College.
Udolf played Bella Jones in the sixth position and won in four games, 13-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-9. All of the rest of the Jumbos fell in three games to their Cavalier opponents.
Senior captain Paget Stanco took the court at the No. 1 spot but fell to Carey Danforth, 11-7, 11-6, 11-2. In the number two position, freshman Zarena Jafry fell to Madeleine Mayhew in three games. Taking the court in her college debut in the number three position, Hannah Burns fell to Diane Tyson.
Olivia Ladd-Lutheringshauser took on Molly Prockop, and was able to score 22 points, but ended up losing in three games. Lindsay Bralower topped Jumbo sophomore Lauren Banner in the number five spot. Chista Irani took the courts in the eight spot, but was topped by Isabel Stack.
Rookie Sinclair Meggitt also scored 22 points against her Cavalier opponent, but fell in three games in the number eight spot. Rounding out the Jumbos line up was Gabrielle Salomon, who was topped by Candace Craig in three games in the nine spot.
Following the match with the Cavaliers the Jumbos took on Boston College. They follow that with matches against Boston University on Saturday and Hamilton on Sunday. Saturday's match will be played at Belmont Hill, while the Sunday duel will be held at Harvard.
