WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Tufts women's squash team concluded play in the NESCAC tournament on Saturday morning consolation bracket loss to Wesleyan. The Jumbos fell, 8-1, as senior tri-captain Paige Dahlman was the only Jumbo to win.
Dalhman took the courts in the first position for the first time in tournament play and beat the Cardinal's Lauren Nelson in three hard fought games, 12-10, 12-10, 11-9.
First-year Lauren Banner played a tough match in the fourth position, forcing five games with Liza Bayless, but wasn't able to top the Cardinal (10-12, 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-7). First-year Gabi Salomon won the first game in the seventh position, but Wesleyan's Annie Ferreira came back and won in four games (6-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5).
In the second position, rookie Claudia Udolf fell in three games to her Cardinal counterpart (11-4, 11-2, 11-1). Senior tri-captain Ann Bellinger faced off with Annie Maxwell in the third position, but was bested by her Wesleyan opponent, 11-3. 11-5, 11-8. In the fifth position, sophomore Anna Bezahler lost to Claire Miller in three games, all by the same 11-5 score. Playing in the eighth spot, rookie Nellie Harvey lost in three games to Tatum LeClair, 11-3, 11-1, 11-5.
The Cardinals won by default in the sixth position against sophomore Lynn Cheng, and in the ninth position against junior tri-captain Paget Stanco.
The Jumbos will be back in action when they compete in the College Squash Associations Team Championships Friday, February 13 through Sunday, February 15. The women open up the play in the D division with a 4:15 pm match against Haverford on Friday. The tournament is being hosted by Harvard.
