Box Score CLERMONT, FL - The Tufts Jumbos jumped out to an early lead on Lesley and captured an 8-0 victory on Monday in Florida. Tufts is 6-0 after three days on their spring trip.
The game was decided quickly as Tufts recorded six runs in the first two innings. Three Tufts pitchers combined on the three-hit shutout.
A two-run double by senior CF Michelle Cooprider during the first inning and an rbi single by sophomore LF Carrie Copacino, a groundout by first-year RF Michelle Chisdak, an rbi single by senior 2B Gracie Marshall, and an error in the second inning supplied the early offense for Tufts.
Cooprider racked up three rbis on two hits for the Jumbos. She also made the first pitching appearance of her Tufts career and struck out two in the fifth.
Tufts had 10 hits overall, spreading the wealth. Chisdak was 2 for 3 with a run and an rbi in the two-hole. Eight Jumbos had hits, seven scored runs and five had rbis.
Lesley's lineup had no answer for junior starter Erica County. She gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during her three innings of work. First-year Raina Galbiati pitched a scoreless fourth inning.
Jillian Sbardella started for Lesley, taking the loss. She allowed six runs in two innings.
After posting one run in the third, Tufts scored one in the fourth. In the third, they scored on a groundout by Sara Willner-Giwerc, plating Marissa Heyer who had tripled.
Mekenzi Golden, Carlyn Barker and Kelsy Lynch had the hits for Lesley. They never threatened to score.
