BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Tufts University men's cross country team finished 25th out of 38 teams with a team score of 748 on the 8-kilometer course at the Paul Short Invitational Saturday at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as senior captains Tim Nichols and Luke O'Connor finished 14th and 47th overall, respectively, out of 336 runners.
Iona finished first overall with a team score of 34, as the squad placed four runners in the top-10 overall. Georgetown posted a second-place finish with 115 points, while Adams State (142) and the University of Pennsylvania (146) finished third and fourth overall, respectively. Columbia earned fifth-place recognition with 167 points. Senior Scott Carpenter of Georgetown finished first overall on the individual side with a time of 23:37.
Nichols posted a time of 23:58 in the 8-kilometer race, which is good for the fastest time in program history. The North Lima, Ohio, native has been the Jumbos' top-finisher two times this season. O'Connor posted the second-fastest time in program history with a mark of 24:24 on the 8-kilometer course. The Chicago, Illinois, native has now been the Jumbos' second-place finisher during two meets this season.
Sophomores Andrew Doherty Munro and Dylan Jones were the squad's third and fourth-place finishers, respectively, as Munro clocked in with a time of 25:54 and Jones registered a mark of 26:08. Rounding out the top-five for the Jumbos was senior Michael Caughron, who posted a time of 26:10.
Sophomore James Gregoire (26:19), sophomore Christian Swenson (26:20), junior Sam Little (26:21), sophomore Tom Doyle (26:43) and sophomore Rory Buckman (26:54) all competed for the Jumbos.
The Jumbos will prepare during the week for their next meet, which will be the James Earley Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Westfield State University. Next on the agenda for the team will be a trip to New London, Connecticut, for the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 15). The team will conclude the October portion of its schedule by competing at the NESCAC Championship on Saturday (Oct. 29) at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
