CAMBRIDGE – The No. 22 Tufts women's squash team edged No. 19 Colby, 5-4, at MIT on Saturday afternoon to pick up their second win of the season. All five of the Jumbos wins on the day came in just three games.
The Jumbos wrap up their opening weekend with a perfect 2-0 mark after downing Boston College to open their season on Friday night.
Freshman Catherine Shanahan picked up her second collegiate win in the third position, as she needed just three games to beat Olivia Silverman, 12-10, 11-7, 11-5. In the fourth position, sophomore Sahana Karthik also needed just three games to beat Caroline Pelham, 11-4, 11-9, 11-7. Rookie Sahar Tirmizi took the courts in the seventh position and allowed her Mule counterpart just seven points across three games (11-3, 11-3, 1101).
Sophomore Chista Irani downed Zoe Dickerson in three games in the eighth position, 11-5, 11-2, 11-7. The last Jumbo win came from sophomore Sinclair Meggitt in the ninth position, as she picked up a 11-2, 11-4, 11-1 win.
Sophomore Hannah Burns lost a hard fought battle in the first position, falling in fives games to Madiha Molani, 11-3, 5-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8. Similarly in the second position freshman Claire Davidson fell in a close five game battle to Devin Mullaney, 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 6-11, 11-2. In the fourth position junior Lauren Banner was topped by Lily Wain, 11-7, 11-6, 11-5. Sophomore Olivia Ladd-Luthringhauser played arguably the closest match of the day in the sixth position, falling to Florence Robinson in five games with two of those going to extra points, 11-8, 11-8, 11-13, 7-11, 13-11.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Tuesday, November 29 when they travel to Mount Holyoke for a 7 pm start.
