Ruscz, County Help Deliver Softball's 6th Straight Win, 9-0, over Allegheny

CLERMONT, FL - Senior co-captain Erica Country pitched a five-inning one-hit shutout and junior Cassie Ruscz hit her sixth home run of the spring as the Tufts softball team won for the sixth straight game 9-0 over Allegheny on Thursday.

The Jumbos are now 6-2 after a 0-2 start on their spring break trip. Allegheny dropped to 4-8.

County pitched her third shutout of the week, improving to 4-1. She did not walk a batter and struck out five. Allegheny's Allie Landowski broke up her perfect-game bid with a lead-off single in the fifth.

Ruscz has now homered five times in the last five games. Today's two-run home run ended the game in the bottom of the fifth. It was the second straight game Ruscz ended by the eight-run rule with a home run including her three-run shot versus Stevens on Tuesday. She has 14 rbis in eight games.

Sophomore Samantha Siciliano kept her strong spring going with a two-run double to start the scoring in the second inning. An Allegheny error, one of six the Gators committed in the game, led to the third Tufts run in the third inning scored by Cain, who had singled. Sophomore Michelle Chisdak had an rbi single to left also that inning giving Tufts a 4-0 lead.

While County was retiring the first 12 batters she faced, Tufts scored on a fielder's choice and a Gators' error to take a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

The Jumbos would end it after two were out in the fifth. Senior 2B Christina Raso had drawn a one-out walk, stole second, and took third on a wild pitch. She scored on another Gators error. Ruscz followed with her two-run homer to right-center making it a 9-0 walk-off win.

Tufts had justt six hits off Allegheny starter Allison Cabo, who allowed all nine runs with just one of them earned. Cabo also walked six.

Ruscz finished 2 for 2 with two rbis, two walks, and three runs scored to go with the home run. No other Jumbos had crooked numbers on their stat sheet.
