Box Score CLERMONT, FL - Junior 1B Summer Horowitz went 2 for 3 with three rbis and two runs scored as the Tufts softball team won 10-2 over Buffalo State in six innings Saturday in Florida.
Senior pitcher Erica County earned her fifth win of the week for the Jumbos allowing four hits and two runs (one earned). Raven Fournier and Christian Cain joined Horowitz in scoring twice for the Jumbos. Cassie Ruscz drove home a pair of runs while Michelle Chisdak and Samantha Siciliano both had two hits.
Tufts trailed 2-1 after three innings. They got on the scoreboard first as Siciliano and Fournier executed a double steal. Fournier had led off with a single up the middle and Siciliano had a one-out base hit to left.
The Benglas took the lead with a pair of runs in the third. Danielle Szymkowiak singled home two runs after Cassandra O'Hern had an infield single and Stephanie Novo reached on an error.
A six-run fourth put Tufts in charge. After Fournier reached on an error to lead off, Cain doubled her home to tie the score. Horowitz singled Cain to third and sophomore Sarah Finnigan brought her home with a fielder's choice for a 3-2 advantage. RBI singles by Carrie Copacino and Michelle Chisdak soon followed before a Ruscz single up the middle scored two making it 7-2 Tufts.
The Jumbos would end it in their fourth. Cain reached on an error and Siciliano doubled her to third. Horowitz scored both with a double to center. She eventually scored on a single by Christina Raso which ended the game.
The Jumbos improved to 7-3 with the win. The Bengals dropped to 7-6.
