Seniors Lead Softball to Double-header Sweep of Hamilton, 6-0 and 11-0

Box Score

MEDFORD - Senior Erica County pitched a three-hit shutout in game one and classmate Christina Raso went 3 for 6 with three runs scored and three rbis in the double-header as the Tufts softball team swept Hamilton College 6-0 and 11-0 on Saturday at Spicer Field.

Christina Raso had a productive Seniors Day at the plate

County and Raso were honored prior to the game on Seniors Day at Tufts. Then they went out and helped the Jumbos improve to 25-8 with the pair of victories.

Hamilton College, which dropped to 12-24, was led by two hits apiece from Olivia Gozdz and Delaney Nicol on the day.

County went seven innings allowing the three hits and no runs with a strikeout and no walks to earn her 17th win of the season in game one. She retired the first 11 Continentals before hitting Gozdz with a pitch in the fourth. County did not allow a hit until a single by Hannah Staab with one out in the sixth.

County was matched on the scoreboard for five innings by Hamilton pitcher Molly Leitner. The game was 0-0 heading into the sixth, though Tufts had left seven runners on base at that point.

The Jumbos finally broke through with six in the sixth inning. Samantha Siciliano doubled home a run and scored in the inning, while Raso and Christian Cain also drove home runs with singles and scored.

Hamilton nearly broke up the shutout in the seventh. Gozdz and Nicol led off with singles, but Gozdz was cut down at the plate on a fielder's choice from Cain at shortstop to Raven Fournier later in the inning.

Eight Jumbos had hits in game one as Tufts finished with 10, led by two each from Cain and Siciliano.

Tufts broke it open early in game two, scoring twice in the first, three in the second, and five in the third. Raso had a pair of base hits, two rbis, and scored twice in the first three frames. Sophomore Raina Galbiati added three rbis during the stretch, including a two-run double in the second.

Meanwhile, Galbiati allowed just four hits and no runs in four innings to earn her eighth victory in the pitcher's circle. Tufts freshman Amolee Hawkins pitched a 1-2-3 inning of relief.

Raso finished 2 for 3 with two runs and two rbis at the top of the order in the nightcap. Cain was 2 for 2 with two runs and an rbi. Michelle Chisdak and Sarah Finnigan both scored twice for Tufts.

Gozdz singled and stole second in the first for Hamilton. Ursula Castiblanco doubled in the fourth.

The Jumbos play a pair of make-up games at Spicer on Tuesday against Wheaton College starting at 3 pm. Hamilton concludes its season at SUNY Polytechnic with a pair also on Tuesdsay starting at 3:30 pm.
