Box Score SOMERVILLE - Three juniors netted goals in the 3-0 Tufts University Women's Soccer win against Emerson College at Kraft Field on Wednesday.
The Jumbos scored two goals in a span of seven minutes in the first half to put them in the driver's seat to win the game.
Tufts advances to a record of 1-0-0 while Emerson College earned a 1-2-0 record to begin the first week of the 2016 season.
The Jumbos scored early with a break-away goal by junior Mariah Harvey- Brown off a pass by senior co-captain Robin Estus in the 14th minute. In the next seven minutes, the team responded with another goal as senior Jess Capone passed back to junior Alex Scheman at the top of the key and Scheman dribbled past the defender and found the net at the top right corner. With Scheman's goal, the Jumbos went to a strong 2-0 lead at the 21st minute of play.
With 14 minutes to go in the second half, sophomore Taylor Koscho rifled a deep kick from right side of the goal that junior Chandler Quintin capitalized on with a shot into the bottom right side of the goal to lead 3-0.
Emily Bowers submitted a shutout performance to lead the Jumbos in their season opener. Bowers saved seven shots throughout the game with only one coming in the second half.
Emerson's Melanie Escobar took her second loss of the season while saving 10 shots in 81 minutes of action.
Tufts Women's Soccer out-shot the Lions in a 21-10 effort.
The Jumbos begin conference play at Colby College on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The Lions return home over the weekend against University of Maine- Farmington at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
