MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University Men's Cross Country team finished second overall at their season opening meet, the Bates Invitational in New Gloucester, Maine.

The Jumbos placed five runners in the top 20 and finished with an overall team score of 197. Bates came in first with a score of 127, WPI claimed third with a 240, and Southern Maine came in fourth with a team score of 298. The meet was scored for the top ten runners on each team.
According to the team, Tufts treated today's race as a workout as they went in with a plan to tempo the race and will begin racing all out next week.
Tufts junior Dylan Jones was the Jumbos' top finisher as he placed 11th overall with a time of 27:04.5 on the 8-kilometer course. Junior Colin Raposo (27:11.1) and senior Sam Little (27:14.7) were Tufts' second and third finishers placing 13th and 14th respectively. Sophomore Michael Carnavos (27:28.4) and junior Brian Reaney (27:30.3) rounded out Tufts' top five as they finished 19th and 20th overall.
Sophomore Matt D'Anieri (27:31.6) finished 22nd overall, junior Andrew Doherty Munro (27:32.1) finished 23rd, freshman Patrick Nero (27:34.7) finished 24th, freshman Peter Horvath (27:35.3) finished 25th, and junior Christian Swenson (27:37.4) finished 26th.
Junior Hiroto Watanabe (27:38.3), senior Tom DePalma (27:49.9), junior Tom Doyle (28:00.4), freshman Harry Steinberg (28:15.9), freshman Dalton Tanner (28:24.2), junior Kyle Anderson (28:34.2), senior John Greenberg (28:40.8), junior James Gregoire (28:49.8), freshman Nic Gitter (28:50.5), junior Rory Buckman (28:56.5), and freshman Joe Berrafati (29:10.0) all competed for the Jumbos.
Tufts is in action next when they travel to the Purple Valley Classic next Saturday the 23rd at Mt. Greylock High School.
