Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Tufts University men's soccer team received points from six different players during a 3-0 win over Wesleyan University on Tuesday.

Senior midfielder Kevin Halliday recorded the game-winning goal for the Jumbos (6-0-1, 3-0-1 in NESCAC), putting a header into the back of the net from point-blank range in the 30th minute. Sophomore midfielder Zach Lane picked up an assist on the tally, orchestrating the play with a run down the right side of the field and a cross into a dangerous area of the box.
The Cardinals (5-2-0, 1-2-0 in NESCAC), who held a 6-4 advantage in shots during the opening 45 minutes, went down 2-0 in the 57th minute on Max Jacobs' first collegiate goal. Jacobs sent a shot into the back of the net from the right doorstep, while sophomore midfielder Brett Rojas recorded an assist, playing the ball initially into the box.
The Cardinals nearly trimmed the deficit to one in the 75th minute, as freshman midfielder Lucas Kimball sent a header shot that barely missed the right side of the net off a corner kick by freshman defender Sam Serxner.
Sophomore midfielder Zachary Trevorrow sent a rocket on net from the right side of the box, which was denied by Cardinals senior goalkeeper Brian Harnett in the 79th minute, but junior captain Sterling Weatherbie stepped up to the plate and blasted the rebound into the back of the net from straight on in the box.
The Cardinals held a 16-12 lead in shots, but the Jumbos held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The game became physical at points with Tufts getting whistled for 22 fouls and Wesleyan being called for nine infractions, while the Jumbos also were tagged with a pair of yellow cards.
Junior goalkeeper Conner Mieth (3-0-0) stayed perfect this season, earning the victory with a two-save performance, as the Jumbos have not allowed a single goal in seven games.
Jacobs led the way for the Jumbos with a game-high five shots and a game-best three shots on goal.
Next up for Tufts the team travels to Amherst College this Saturday. Wesleyan will take on Hamilton the same day.
