PALO ALTO, Calif. – The No. 19 Tufts women's squash team was topped by No. 4 Stanford, 9-0, on the road on Thursday evening. The match was the first of the second semester for the Jumbo women.
The loss moves the Jumbos record to 6-2 this year and snaps a six match-winning streak. Stanford improves to 7-1 with the win.
Freshman Julie Yeung took the courts in the first position, but she wasn't able to top Stanford's Caroline Neave, falling 11-1, 11-2, 11-4. In the second position sophomore Claire Davidson took on Christie Huchro but lost, 11-6, 11-3, 11-2. Junior Zarena Jafry played in the third position, but it was the Cardinals' Sarah Bell that pulled out the win, 11-2, 11-3, 11-4.
In the third position junior Hannah Burns was topped by Sumrin Mudgil, 11-4, 11-1, 11-5. Freshman Rachel Windreich took on Lucy Rowe in the fifth position, but fell 11-6, 11-4, 11-1. Sophomore Catherine Shanahan played one of the closest matches of the day in the sixth position, falling to Anna Marie Manning, 11-8, 11-3, 11-9.
Senior Lauren Banner played in the seventh position but was bested by Juliette Love. In the eighth position, junior Sahana Karthik took on Grayson Melby but wasn't able to pull out a win. Junior Chista Irani rounded out the Jumbos lineup in the ninth position, but fell to Tatyanna Dadabbo in three games.
The match with the Cardinal wraps up the California trip for the Jumbos. They will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Dickinson for a 10 am start.
