BRUNSWICK, Maine – The No. 19 Tufts women's squash team won in the fourth through ninth positions to take a 6-3 win over No. 26 Bowdoin on the road on Saturday afternoon. All six Jumbos that won did so in just three games.
With the win the women improve to 10-4 overall this season. The loss moves Bowdoin's record to 5-8 this year.
Junior Hannah Burns took the courts in the fourth position, and picked up an 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 win over Bowdoin's Diya Chopra. In the fifth position sophomore Catherine Shanahan was able to top Zoe Wood, 11-6, 12-10, 11-7. Freshman Rachel Windreich took on Natasha Belsky in the sixth position and earned an 11-1, 11-9, 11-9 win.
Junior Sahana Karthik faced off with Caroline Burkhart in the seven spot and allowed Burkhart to score just ten points across three games, winning 11-5, 11-1, 11-4. In the eighth position, senior Lauren Banner was able to pick up a three game win over Hannah Cooke, 11-2, 11-4, 11-5. The last Jumbo win came in the ninth position as junior Chista Irani won in three games over Jeannie Davis, 11-5, 11-1, 11-6.
Freshman Julie Yeung faced off with Lindsey Bindra in the first position and won the third game and pushed two games to extra points but wasn't able to come up with a win, 11-4, 13-11, 4-11, 13-11. In the second position sophomore Claire Davidson won the first game, but wasn't able to win another against Virginia Ross, falling 4-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-7. In the third position, junior Zarena Jafry fell to Lex Horwitz, 11-2, 11-8, 11-7.
The Jumbos wrap up their Maine road weekend on Sunday with an 11 am match at No. 22 Colby. Bowdoin plays again on Sunday when they host Brown for a 12 pm start.
