WILLIAMSTOWN – Sophomore Chloe Kantor won in the ninth position, but it wasn't enough and the No. 19 Tufts women's squash team fell to No. 13 Williams, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon on the road.
With the setback the Jumbos are now 2-2 this season. Williams improves to 4-4 with the win.
Kantor won easily in the ninth position, allowing Cassie Deshong to score just seven points across three games, as she won 11-0, 11-5, 11-2.
After losing the first two games, sophomore Julie Yeung came back and won the third game in extra points, but she wasn't able to complete the comeback and she fell to Sarah Willwerth in the second position, 11-1, 11-6, 11-13, 14-12. Freshman Megan Chen won the first and third games in the fifth position, but fell in an extra-points fifth game to Melissa Swan (6-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 12-10). Senior captain Sahana Karthik won the third game in the eighth position, but Alexandra Pear hung on for the four game win, 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8.
Junior Claire Davidson played some close games with Julia Ward in the first position, but she wasn't able to manage a win, falling to Ward 11-4, 11-9, 12-10. Senior Zarena Jafry took on Esther Baek in the third position but wasn't able to beat her Eph opponent. Sophomore Rachel Windreich forced a game to extra points but wasn't able to win over Abigail LeBlanc in the fourth position. Senior Hannah Burns fell to Kathryn Wright in the sixth position and freshman Diya Sanghi fell to Adrienne Conza in the seventh position to round out the Jumbos lineup.
The Jumbos are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Bowdoin for a 2 pm start with the Polar Bears. The Ephs have a bit of a break now, as the next time they play is January 5 at Middlebury.
