Men's Swimming and Diving's Roger Gu Posts 4 First-Place Finishes at Wesleyan

Tar Tar Jarusinchai was a member of the first-place 400 freestyle relay

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Tufts men's swimming and diving competed in a quad meet at Wesleyan University with WPI and Williams on Saturday. The brown and blue had four first-place finishes on the day. The Jumbos defeated the host Cardinals 243-62, but were defeated by WPI 157-148 and by Williams 170.5-121.5.

Gu posted a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.23 seconds, winning the event by 1.57 seconds. Gu also finished first in the 200 freestyle with a 1:42.89 mark. The junior All-American posted another first-place mark in the 100 free (46:30).The Jumbos' 400 freestyle relay A team of freshmen Nate Tingen and Tar Tar Jarusinchai, sophomore Tyler Tatro, and junior Roger Gu placed first overall clocking a 3:06.62 final time.

Tingen finished second in the 50 backstroke with a time of 23.88 secnds. The freshman also placed second in the 100 back with a 51.82 mark. Fellow freshman Joseph Kim (1:55.73) tied for second in the 200 backstroke with Williams sophomore Jackson Karofsky.

The brown and blue's junior Alexander Burnam was the third participant to place in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:10.64 time. Kim had a final time of 4:16.33 in the 400 individual medley and finished third.

Tufts' B team in the 400 free relay of sophomores JJ Batt, John Koster, Lomax Turner, and freshman Victor Vollbrechthausen finished fourth overall among 21 squads of four. Tatro clocked a 1:46.84 in the 200 free which was good for fourth overall.

Senior Brandon Jinn swam a 4:49.75 for a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle. In the 100 butterfly Turner's 52:19 mark placed fourth, and he was fourth in the 200 fly as well with a 1:57.12 finish.

In three-meter diving, Jumbo sophomore Austin Pruitt scored second with 258.50 points.

Head coach Adam Hoyt's Jumbos now hit the semester break. Tufts will next be in action on January 19 when they travel to Wheaton College for a meet starting at 12 pm.
