CAMBRIDGE – Playing in the third place match of the Walker Cup at the College Squash Association Team Nationals the Tufts women's squash team beat Wesleyan, 7-2, to finish with a national ranking of No. 19. The Jumbos beat St. Lawrence on Friday, and then fell to Bates on Saturday during team national play.
The Jumbos season comes to a close with a 15-7 record this year.
Sophomore Claire Davidson won an extremely close four game battle in the second position, as three of the four games went to extra points, but Davidson was on top of all three of those to win 13-11, 5-11, 14-12, 12-10. Junior Hannah Burns fell in the first game, but came back to win the next three in the fifth position to top Natasha Feenstra, 5-11, 13-11, 11-7, 11-4. Similarly in the sixth position freshman Rachel Windreich fell in the first two games to Nina Premutico, but came back to win the next three to score for the Jumbos (5-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-1, 11-5).
In the seventh position freshman Chloe Kantor needed four games but picked up a win over Tatum Leclair, 11-2, 12-10, 6-11, 11-6. Senior Lauren Banner lost the first game to Alessandra Lampietti in the ninth position, but was able to win the next three to win for the Jumbos (8-11, 11-2, 11-9, 11-9). Sophomore Catherine Shanahan picked up a commanding win in the fourth position, allowing Josephine Russ to score just 11 points across three games, 11-1, 11-3, 11-7. The last Jumbo win came from junior Sahana Karthik in the eighth position, as she beat Sarah Clothier in three games, 11-6, 12-10, 11-4.
Freshman Julie Yeung took on Laila Samy in the first position, but wasn't able to pick up a win falling 11-2, 11-1, 11-7. Junior Zarena Jafry faced off with Ananya Vir in the third position, but fell 11-3, 11-7, 11-9.
