Idelson of Men's Swimming and Diving Competes at NCAA Regional

Idelson competed at his third NCAA Regional Friday.

MEDFORD, Mass. - Senior Aaron Idelson of the Tufts University men's swimming and diving team competed at the NCAA Region 3 Meet Friday at Middlebury College. The meet is held for divers to attempt to qualify for the National Championship.

There are two events, the one-meter and the three-meeter dive, and in order to qualify, divers must place within the top seven participants in either event. A top seven finish in the one-meter qualifies you for nationals in both events, as does a top seven result in the three-meter. Tonight, the men participated in the one-meter compeition and were judged on an 11 dive routine.

Idelson finished the night with a score of 386.55, which was good enough to put him in 15th place. This improved upong Idelson's 17th place finish from last season. As a sophomore, his stronger of the two events was the three-meter in which he took ninth place.

Connor Brisson of New York University finished in first with a 510.00, Connor Pennington of Springfield College took second with a 480.55, and Matt Mintz of Union College claimed third with a 477.75. The final qualifer was Sam Hoyt of Union College in seventh with a 454.95.

He will have another chance to qualify for nationals tomorrow when the men participate in the three-meter dive.
