Box Score
CLERMONT, Fla. – Freshman Kristina Haghdan threw a six-hit shutout and everyone in the Jumbo line-up had a hit as the Tufts softball team defeated Wellesley College, 6-0, Friday in Florida.
Haghdan's first career shutout was Tufts' third shutout of the week in Florida as they improved to 9-3 overall. She struck out seven, walked two and stranded eight Wellesley runners on base. The outing lowered the Tufts staff's era to 1.57.
Sophomore Jamie Stevens pace the Tufts bats with a 2 for 4 game featuring two rbis and two runs. Senior 2B Samantha Siciliano also had two hits for Tufts, who saw five different players score and drive in runs.
After having a run cut down at the plate in the first inning, the Jumbos got it back later in the first as Stevens scored on a sacrifice fly by senior catcher Raven Fournier.
The Jumbos put some distance between themselves and the Blue with two in the second, two in the third and another run in the fourth. Stevens hit a two-run single to score the runs in the second. After Fournier led off the third with a double, she was tripled home by freshman SS Mia Steinberg, who then scored on a sac fly by sophomore CF Maggie Lebinski. The fourth-inning run came via Stevens' single followed by senior DH Raina Galbiati's rbi double.
Wellesley (0-2) would put runners in scoring position a few times throughout the game, but could not take advantage. The Jumbos twice turned double plays to kill Wellesley threats, and a one-out double by Kendall Smith in the sixth went for naught.
These teams face each other again bright and early Saturday morning (9 a.m.).
