Freshman Reegan Coleman cleared the bases in the third

The Jumbos (10-3) defeated the Blue (0-3) for the second game in a row following yesterday afternoon's 6-0 Tufts victory in Florida.

Tufts had two hits and two walks in the first inning this morning, but did not score. The game was tied 0-0 heading into the third when Jumbo junior LF Kristen Caporelli hit a one-out single through the right side. After a walk and a single by senior catcher Sarah Finnigan, Coleman found the gap in right-center to clear the bases and make it 3-0 Jumbos.

Tufts sophomore starter Gillian O'Connor allow a hit and two walks in the first inning before Wellesley threatened in the fourth. Finnigan picked a runner off third and the Jumbos forced another runner at third as O'Connor kept the Blue off the scoreboard for the time being.

Wellesley struck for two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Jessica Budz led off with a single, was sacrificed to second and took third on a ground out to the right side. She scored when sophomore Kendall Smith doubled to right-center. A single by Gen Brittingham then made it 3-2, but O'Connor got a ground ball for the final out.

Julia Warner singled to lead off the sixth and Tufts went to freshman Kristi Van Meter in the circle. She retired the next six batters, four by strikeout, to save the win for O'Connor (5 IP, 6 H, 2 R).

Blue starter Sydney Hopper took the loss giving up six hits and three runs with three walks in 2.2 innings. Senior Madeline Bianchi shut Tufts down over 4.1 innings in relief allowing two hits and no runs.

Siciliano and Caporelli both had two hits for Tufts. Brittinghamn went 3-3 for Wellesley.

Both teams play Kalamazoo later on Saturday.
