CAMBRIDGE – Tufts men's swimming and diving lost 215.5-80.5 to MIT on Friday night as 13 Jumbos recorded finishes within the top three of events they competed in.

Junior Roger Gu collected two first-place victories for the brown and blue. His wins came in the 50 freestyle in which he clocked a time of 20.31 and in the 100 yard freestyle (44.96). Senior Kingsley Bowen picked up the other Jumbo win in the 100 backstroke (51.90) and posted a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle (47.68).
Tufts started the night out competing in the 200 medley relay, where freshman Nate Tingen, junior Matt Manfre, Bowen, and Gu placed second after recording a time of 1:33.36. The Jumbos also got second-place finishes from junior Tommy Gillespie in the 1,000 freestyle (9:59.53), freshman Tar Tar Jarusinchai in the 100 breaststroke (59.06) and in the 200 freestyle relay from sophomore JJ Batt, junior Costa Camerano, Bowen, and Gu (1:24.11).
The Jumbos had third-place finishes from sophomores John LaLime (9:59.63) in the 1,000 freestyle, Nathan Mitchell (1:56.24) in the 200 backstroke, Tyler Tatro (4:49.46) in the 500 yard freestyle and Lomax Turner (51.44) in the 100 butterfly. Freshman Joseph Kim also placed third in the 200 butterfly (1:57.68).
Junior Bouke Edskes led MIT as he registered an NCAA "B" cut time in the 400 individual medley, won two events and placed second in two others. He began his night with Tim Kralj, Brandon McKenzie and Sam Ubellacker as they won the 200 medley relay in 1:32.55. Individually, Edskes swam his "B" cut in the 400 IM and won in 4:01.04, and also placed second in both the 200 free in 1:42.71 and the 200 back in 1:53.80.
Tufts' next meet will be on February 8 when they compete in the BU Invitational at 6 pm. MIT will next be in action on February 2 against Amherst at 1 pm.
