CAMBRIDGE – The Tufts University men's rowing team made a competitive standing in the prestigious Head of The Charles Regatta this Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday in the Men's Club Eight event, the Jumbo second varsity eight placed 26th with a time of 16:13.044, beating Wesleyan's 2V time of 16:23.122 by more than 10 seconds. This race was rowed in a highly competitive pool with other Division III and Division I crews. The fastest time was 14:36.116 from Harvard University.
The Jumbos' second varsity eight line-up was coxswain Rachel Halliday, stroke Nick Kuranda, 7 Alex Maykel, 6 Tom Muller, 5 Peter Malinovsky, 4 Matt Agurcia, 3 Dean Ericksen, 2 Drew Macklin, and bow seat Drew Niles.
On Sunday the first varsity eight placed 21st, beating their last year's place of 29th in the Men's Collegiate Eight event. The overall course time was 15:19.208, as the Jumbos out-rowed WPI (15:19.378) by 0.17 of a second. MIT won wiht a 14:25.901 finish.
The Jumbos' first varsity eight line-up was coxswain Tara Curran, stroke Graeme McDonough, 7 Alex Williams, 6 Harris Hardiman-Mostow, 5 Ryan Hankins, 4 Mats Edwards, 3 Mitch Koganski, 2 Liam Jenkins, and Paul Fabrycky sitting bow.
Tufts will be in action next weekend at Saratoga, New York for the Head of the Fish Regatta October 26-27.
