WALTHAM – Senior Roger Gu and sophomore Nate Tingen both had three victories on Sunday as the Tufts University men's swimming & diving team defeated Brandeis University in a non-conference dual meet.
Both Gu and Tingen swam with the 200 medley relay that won with a 1:35.91 time to open the meet. Also with the foursome were seniors Matt Manfre and tri-captain Costa Camerano.
Two individual victories for Tingen came in the 100 backstroke with a 52.49 time and in the 200 individual medley at 1:58.79.
Gu dashed to a 100 freestyle win of 45.86 seconds and also swam the anchor leg of the first-place 400 freestyle relay (3:13.37). He was preceded in the relay by freshman Peter LaBarge, freshman Dylan Brown and junior Noah Zhang.
Manfre, Zhang, junior John LaLime and freshman diver Zach Lawrence were all double winners at the meet for the Jumbos.
In addition to the 200 medley relay performance, Manfre took the 50 breaststroke in 28.02 seconds. Zhang added a first in the 50 freestyle with a winning 22.34 sprint to his 400 free relay contribution. LaLime swept the distance freestyles, timing 9:52.10 to win the 1,000 early in the meet and later touching first in the 500 free with a 4:51.04 mark.
Scores of 284.10 in one-meter and 190.74 in the three-meter contest earned the diving victories for Lawrence.
The other two of Tufts' 13 wins at the meet came from sophomore Tar Tar Jarusinchai in the 100 butterfly (52.61) and by freshman Joshua Balbi in the 50 backstroke (24.56).
Brandeis won three events at the meet including Daniel Wohl placing first in the 200 freestyle with a 1:47.71 touch.
The Jumbos won the team competition by a 222-74 score.
Tufts will compete at the MIT Invitational December 6-8 to finish their first semester of action.
