MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The defending New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) champion Tufts men's swimming and diving team opened the 2019 conference meet on Thursday night by swimming a pair of NCAA B-cuts in the 800 freestyle relay at the Middlebury College Natatorium.
The Jumbo A foursome of sophomore John Koster, freshman Joseph Kim, senior Noah Cagley, and sophomore Tyler Tatro clocked a time of 6:43.73, which was an NCAA-B cut time and placed third. Tufts also had their B relay of sophomore Lomax Turner, freshman Victor Vollbrechthausen, freshman Nate Tingen, and junior Alexander Burnam compete and post a second-place mark among the B units. They finished with a 6:44.81, which was also an NCAA B-cut time and scored 13th ovverall.
Tufts sits tied for second place with Amherst College in the team standings, both with 76 points. Williams is in first place with 90 points.
Williams College's A relay finished first with their time of 6:34.03, which broke the NESCAC record of 6:35.82 from Amherst in 2011.
The brown and blue will return to action tomorrow morning at 10 am for day two of the NESCAC Championships. The preliminary rounds of the 1-meter diving competition are set for 2 pm and the finals will begin at 6 p.m.
