CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Tufts University men's swimming and diving program downed Boston College, 195-179, on Tuesday evening. The win ended a 10-year losing streak for Tufts against the Eagles, whom they have competed against each year since 2010. The Jumbo men started competing against BC in 2006 and won in 2006, 2007, and 2008, but not since.
The Jumbos have competed against the Eagles since the 2009-10 season.
The Tufts A-relay team grabbed the top spot in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. They finished in a time of 1:32.62, made up of senior Roger Gu, sophomores Tar Tar Jarusinchai and Nate Tingen, and freshman Joshua Balbi. The B-relay team finished fifth at 1:36.91. That group comprised of seniors Costa Camerano and Matt Manfre and juniors Nathan Mitchell and Noah Zhang.
Junior John Lalime earned a first place finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 9:37.37, over two seconds faster than the second place finisher. Freshman Evan Szablewski rounded out the podium in third at 9:43.00.
Junior John Koster finished third in the 200 Yard Freestyle at 1:44.29. In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Tingen earned his second win of the day with a time of 50.91. Sophomore Ethan Webster finished fourth in the event at 53.26.
Jarusinchai finished second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and was just .35 off the top spot at 57.30. Freshman Luke Isayiw finished fourth with a time of 59.40.
Freshman Sebastian Cai grabbed the top spot in the 200 Yard Butterfly. His time of 1:55.42 was .31 over the second place finisher. Senior Trevor Serman finished in 1:59.27 which was good for fourth.
Balbi, Camerano, and junior Lomax Turner finished tied for second, fourth and fifth in the 50 Yard Butterfly. Balbi finished at 23.55, Camerano was just .05 off Balbi while Turner was just .12 behind Camerano.
Gu earned his second win of the day in the 50 Yard Freestyle as he finished with a time of 20.28. Freshman Peter LaBarge finished third at 21.45. Gu and LaBarge grabbed first and third in the 100 Yard Freestyle with times of 45.30 and 46.55.
Mitchell found himself on the top spot of the 200 Yard Backstroke. His time of 1:56.00 was just .06 over Webster, who finished second. Tingen and Balbi finished second and third in the 50 Yard Backstroke with times of 23.53 and 24.22.
Jarsusinchai earned another win in the 200 Yard Breaststroke at 2:06.78. The Jumbos swept the top three in the event as Alexander Burnam and Michael Gregorace finished with times of 2:09.95 and 2:10.80.
Manfre, Isayiw, and junior Kuan Lee finished second, fourth, and sixth in the 50 Yard Breaststroke. Manfre finished at 26.98, Isayiw tied at fourth at 27.40, and Lee finished at 27.95.
Lalime finished second in the 500 Yard Freestyle at 4:38.62. Szablewski finished fourth with a time of 4:49.77. Junior Tyler Tatro finished at 4:52.85, which was good for fifth.
In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Balbi and junior JJ Batt finished third and fourth with times of 52.19 and 52.40. Sebastian finished in fifth at 52.44.
Jarusinchai earned his fourth win in the event in the 200 Yard IM. He finished at 1:52.89. Koster rounded out the top three at 1:56.60. Tingen finished first in the 100 Yard IM. Batt finished fifth in the event at 55.58.
Camerano, Gu, LaBarge, and freshman Dylan Brown earned the top spot in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Their time of 1:22.10 was nearly two seconds faster than the second place group.
In the 1 meter dive, freshman Zach Lawrence earned a second place finish with a total score of 215.95. Freshman Kai Renshaw and classmate Matt Langley finished third and fourth with scores of 203.33 and 182.95.
Tufts returns to the pool on Saturday when they host Wheaton College at the Hamilton Pool. They are scheduled to start at noon.
