STANFORD, Calif. – The #19 Tufts University women's squash team fell to #6 Stanford University on Wednesday evening, 9-0. Head coach Joe Raho's Jumbos are on a semester-break trip to California.
The Jumbos fall to 4-3 on the season while the Cardinals improve to 2-2. This was the first match in over a month for the Jumbos and the only home match of the season for the Cardinals.
Freshman Isa Schneider in the #2 match was the top performer for the Jumbos as she fell to Casey Wong in three sets. Her opening set, 11-7, was the closest set of the match for T ufts. She followed that up with an 11-6 performance before dropping the last set 11-3 to score 16 total points.
Three other Jumbos tallied double-digit points as senior Catherine Shanahan tied Schneider's 11-7 for closest set of the match from the #3 position against Stanford's Caroline Neave. She would drop her next two sets by 11-3 and 11-2 scores. Sophomore Diya Sanghi fell in the #5 match to Stanford's Amita Gondi, 11-4, 11-3, 11-5. The #6 match featured junior Rachel Windreich and Cassandra Ong of Stanford. Ong earned 11-3, 11-3, and 11-4 victories in the three-set match.
Tufts returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Bates for a 5 pm start. Stanford heads to Cornell on Friday for a 6 pm start time.
