WILLIAMSTOWN – Tufts University placed third in the 800 freestyle relay on the first night of competition at the 2020 NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at Williams College on Thursday.
The Jumbo foursome of sophomore Nate Tingen, junior Tyler Tatro, sophomore Victor Vollbrechthausen and sophomore Tar Tar Jarusinchai combined on a 6:44.59 time that was under the NCAA B mark (6:47.12). Their top-three finish earns All-Conference accolades.
A pair of Tufts entries combined to score 76 points in the event, which has Tufts in second place as a team after tonight's race. The second Jumbo unit of sophomore Ethan Webster, freshman Peter LaBarge, junior John Koster and freshman Dylan Brown timed 6:55.95 for 13th place.
Williams College won the 800 free relay in a 6:34.37 pool record, and the Ephs lead the team standings with 90 points. Amherst, which was second in tonight's race (6:43.64), is third as a team with 74 points. Bates (72) is close behind in fourth place.
Friday's first full day of action at the NESCAC meet starts with 10:00 am preliminaries and a 6:00 pm evening session. Friday's events are the 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly, 500 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, one-meter diving, 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.
