MEDFORD – The Tufts University men's cross country team finished in 30th place at the NCAA Championship Race at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky today.
As a team, the Jumbos earned 685 points, leaving them just three points shy of the 29th place finisher, Loras College. Tufts finished just under 100 points better than the 31st place finisher, Haverford College. Pomona-Pitzer won the event with 80 points.
The first runner to cross the finish line for the Jumbos was sophomore Walter Wagude who completed the eight-kilometer race in 74th place with a time of 24:39.5. Senior Sam Gatti, who led the Jumbos in the NCAA Regional Championship, finished in 156th with a time of 25:07.1.
The next finisher for Tufts was senior Collin O'Sullivan who came in 210th place with a time of 25:36.9. Senior Dalton Tanner and junior Oliver Printy finished back-to-back in 241st and 242nd place, respectively. Tanner had a time of 25:49.7 while Printy finished just 0.1 seconds after him at 2:49.8, rounding out the Jumbos' scorers.
Freshman Enock Musyoka finished his NCAA race debut with a time of 26:46.2, which was good for 284th place. Fellow freshman Alex Friedman finished just behind him with a time of 27:26.4, finishing in 288th place.
The Jumbos finished their NCAA Championship-qualifying season with three top-three finishes, including a first-place finish in their first race of the season, the Trinity Invitational, and a third-place finish in the NCAA Regional Championship last week. This was the 16th natoinal championship race berth for the Jumbo program.
