MEDFORD - Senior midfielder Calvin Aroh of the Tufts University men's soccer team was announced today as a member of the United Soccer Coaches All-America first team.
This is the fourth consecutive United Soccer Coaches All-American list to include a Jumbo on the first team. Tufts' Joe Braun was a first-teamer in 2018 and 2019, preceded by Conor Coleman in 2017. All-American teams were not selected in 2020 when the season was canceled due to COVID-19.
Aroh is one of two New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) players on the All-America first team this fall, and one of just three New England players overall. This is Aroh's first-ever All-American recognition.
A force in the middle of the field and a tri-captain of the Jumbos, Aroh helped lead Tufts to the NESCAC title and a run into the NCAA Tournament "Elite 8". Under head coach Kyle Dezotell, Tufts finished 15-2-4 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
In addition to continuing to win possession defensively for the Jumbos in the middle of the field, Aroh produced his top offensive season in 2021. He scored six goals with three assists for 15 points, and was at his best in league games scoring a team-high five goals.
Aroh scored three game-winning goals through the season, all in NESCAC games and including a header off a free kick from teammate Travis Van Brewer in the 108th minute against Amherst. He also scored twice against Hamilton, had the goal in a tie at Bowdoin and assisted on NCAA Tournament goals against New England College and Washington College.
The NESCAC All-Conference and United Soccer Coaches All-Region squads both also had Aroh on their first teams. He was a NESCAC Player of the Week on October 18 of the season.
