Box Score BANGOR, Maine - The Tufts University softball team scored two runs after two were out in the top of the seventh inning to earn a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Babson College in game two of the NCAA Regional hosted by Husson University on Friday.
Tufts (18-5) advances in the bracket to play Brandeis, who defeated Eastern Connecticut 10-9 in game three of the Regional on Friday. The Jumbos and Judges will meet in game six of the tournament at noon on Saturday. Babson (15-2) plays an elimination game against Endicott College on Friday at 4 pm.
With Tufts down 1-0 to Babson heading into the top of the seventh, senior Reegan Coleman led off with a single up the middle. Following a sacrifice bunt by Rachel Moore that moved Coleman to second, a fly ball to center brought the Jumbos down to theif final out.
Sophomore CF Michelle Adelman dramatically delivered an rbi single to left just over the reach of the Babson shortstop scoring Coleman to tie the game at 1-1. After Emma Della Volpe singled to right putting Adelman on second, Josie Steinberg lined a ball that deflected off Babson pitcher Brooke Stock over to the right side of the infield. Adelman was able to scamper home from second on the play giving Tufts a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Babson pinch hitter Jamie Hoffman hit a one-out single. However, Tufts starter Kristina Haghdan got ground-ball fielder's choices on the next two batters to earn the victory.
Haghdan therw a complete game allowing just four hits and one unearned run with four strikeouts and a walk.
Babson had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Kate Karamouzis led off with a single through the right side. A Tufts error put runners on first and second and then Stock sacrificed both to set up a second-and-third situation. Isabel Aguilar then hit a ground ball to third. Karamouzis took off for home after Moore looked her back and threw to first, and the Babson runner scored the game's first run with a diving slide.
Tufts had left two on in second when Mia Steinberg singled and Moore walked. In the fourth the Jumbos had two on after two were out thanks to a Babson error and a single by Coleman. They couldn't get runs out of either opportunity.
Babson had three LOBs early, but Hagdan got even better as the game went on retiring nine out of 10 from the fourth through the sixth. She improved to 7-3 with the win. Stock took her first loss for Babson, allowing eight hits and two runs with four K's and two BB's.
Della Volpe, Josie Steinberg and Coleman all had two hits for Tufts.
