WILLIAMSTOWN – The Tufts University men's cross country team finished in fifth place out of 10 total teams in the Purple Valley Classic at Mount Greylock High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts on Saturday with a score of 145.
Tufts' top performer was sophomore Walter Wagude, who finished the eight-kilometer race with a time of 27:08.5 for 16th place. As a team, Tufts finished just 12 points shy of the fourth-place finisher WPI (133) while host Williams finished in first place with 29 points followed by MIT with 32 points and Middlebury came in third place with 86 points.
The next Tufts runner to cross the finish line was senior Joseph Harmon (pictured) who came in 36th place with a time of 27:41.5. Not far behind him was junior Sam Gatti who finished in 38th place with a time of 27:43.2. Senior Collin O'Sullivan and freshman Alex Friedman finished in 44th and 46th place, respectively. O'Sullivan had a time of 27:52.5 and Freidman finished with a time of 27:54.7.
Freshman Martin Horne was the next Tufts runner to finish as he came in 48th place with a time of 28:01.3. Junior Oliver Printy also finished with a good time as he crossed the finish line in 52nd place with a time of 28:08.1. Tufts had 13 runners in the top 70 out of 153 total runners.
Evan Ensslin (28:18.3), Connor Giersch (28:23.7), Jack Walsh (28:30.9), Adam Bernstein (28:32.2), Nate Oakes (28:37.5), Ryan Proulx (28:38.6), Dalton Tanner (28:55.5), Brady Colford (29:01.3), Enock Musyoka (29:37.6), James Johnson (29:57.0), Jack Cyprus (30:24.2), Jackson O'Toole (30:30.2), Jack Taylor (30:41.9), Eli Kritzer (31:43.6), and David Manning (32:10.4) all competed in the event for the Jumbos as well.
Next, after a week off, the Jumbos will travel to the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championship at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday, October 9th.
