MEDFORD, MA– The Tufts women's soccer team showed another strong performance on both sides of the ball as they shut out Bridgewater State with a score of 6-0 on Wednesday evening.
In what was a warm evening at Bello Field, the Jumbos were able to continue their recent scoring surge with a six goal performance. Additionally, this is the sixth shutout of the year for Tufts, showing their dominance on the defensive end as well.
The Jumbos got the scoring opened up early, as they worked their way into the Bridgewater State end and forced a corner kick in the third minute.
Caroline O'Neill, who has taken the majority of the Tufts corner kicks thus far into the season, sent a beautiful ball to the back post for
Lena Sugrue, who one-timed it with her right foot into the back of the net. The goal is the first year's third of the season, all coming within the last four games, and all coming off corner kicks.
Soon after, the Jumbos offense struck again, as midfielder
Casey Lam put on a nice move to break loose in the center of the field and ripped a shot into the left of the net, past Bears goalkeeper Logan Levesque to put Tufts up 2-0 in the 17th minute. Then, just four minutes later, it was Lam again starting a scoring break, as she hit captain
Maddie Pero on the left side of the net, who one-timed it into the bottom right corner, giving the Jumbos a three goal lead with 24 minutes remaining in the first half.
The offense was able to tally one more before the half, as
Caroline Kelly set up
Erin Duncan for a nice volley, which she one-timed into the back of the net for her sixth goal of the year, putting the Jumbos up 4-0 at the half.
The second half was more of the same, as Tufts was able to hold onto possession for the majority.
Thalia Greenberg was able to break free twice, as she headed one in off of a corner kick from
Caroline O'Neill in the 53rd minute, and then doubled down when she scored in the 64th minute after an assist from
Casey Lam. Tufts held onto that lead, and went on to win the game 6-0.
Kaelin Logue started in net for the Jumbos, and she made four saves in the first half, before being replaced by first year
Kianna Hill in the second half, who made her first appearance of the season.
The Jumbos led the game in shots (23-4), corner kicks (10-1), and shots on goal (18-4). Bridgewater State's Levesque made 12 saves as opposed to Tufts' four, all coming from Logue in the first half.
Tufts now improves to 8-2-1 on the season, as they look to win their third in a row on Saturday, when they play at Bates. Bridgewater State drops to 8-3-2, as they look to bounce back against Worcester State on Saturday.
