Wagude Achieves All-Conference Time, Team Places Sixth at NESCAC's

CLINTON, NY (October 29, 2022) - Junior Walter Wagude ran an All-Conference time to lead the Tufts University men's cross country team at the 2022 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship on Saturday at Hamilton College.

Wagude covered the eight-kilometer course in a 24:58.7 time for 11th place overall. The top 14 finishers receive All-Conference recognition.

The Jumbos placed sixth out of 11 teams, just one point out of fifth. Tufts' top five finishers earned a 141 score, while fifth-place Bates College finished at 140.

Freshman Amokrane Aouchiche had an excellent day for the Jumbos, running 25th in a season-best 8K time of 25:10.3 in his championship race debut. Scoring third for the Jumbos was sophomore Ivan Appleton, who crossed the finish line 32nd with a 25:19.6 mark.

Senior Evan Ensslin was fourth for Tufts, his best team showing of the season, and 41st overall. His 25:32.4 was his best time at three career NESCAC races and was nearly his 8K career best. The fifth and final scorer for Tufts was senior Oliver Printy at a career-best 25:37.0.

Jumbo freshman Calvin Cummings was also in the top 50 (46th) out of 152 finishers overall. His time was a season-best 25:40.0. Senior Connor Giersch was the seventh Tufts finisher (career-best 25:50.9).

Williams College won the conference title with a 41 score, and Eph senior Elias Lindgren was the individual champion by a large margin with a 23:25.8 mark.

The Jumbos will race at the NCAA East Regional Championship hosted by Bowdoin College in two weeks.
