BRUNSWICK, ME (November 12, 2022) - Six Tufts University runners earned All-Region honors as the Jumbo men's cross country team placed fourth out of 33 teams at the NCAA East Regional Championship held at Bowdoin College on Saturday.
Sophomore Ivan Appleton was first for Tufts and 10th overall with a 25:38.1 time for eight kilometers. That led Tufts to a 116 team score, behind East Regional champion MIT (21), Bates (72) and Colby (82).
The top 35 finishers in the 233-man race won All-Region honors today. Jumbo junior Walter Wagude achieved the recognition for the second time of his career, running 20th today in 26:06.1. Jumbo scorers senior Oliver Printy (26:27.6), freshman Amokrane Aouchiche (26:28.7) and freshman Luke Brennan (26:32.5) were packed together in 29th through 31st place, respectively. Freshman Calvin Cummings, sixth for Tufts at 26:39.8, was 35th overall to grab the last All-Region award.
Also competing for Tufts at the Regional was senior Evan Ensslin, who was a solid 41st (27:13.7).
With a fourth-place Regional finish, Tufts is on the bubble for a berth into the NCAA Championship race. MIT gets the East's automatic invite, while Bates, Colby and Tufts will await the announcement of at-large berths on Sunday.
Colby College junior Tyler Morris won the NCAA East Regional title in a 24:55.6 time. MIT senior Andrew Mah was second (25:25.6).
The Jumbos are hoping for an at-large NCAA berth which would be the program's 17th NCAA appearance.
