Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Topples Framingham State, 77-39

BOSTON, MA (November 26, 2022) -- The Tufts University men's basketball team clamped down defensively, holding Framingham State University to only 13 made buckets, cruising to a 77-39 win in action from the 2nd Annual Black Coaches Classic hosted by UMass Boston at the Clark Athletic & Recreation Center.

The first half was all Jumbos (5-0), as they scored the game's first 12 points and didn't allow a field goal until the 8:59 mark of the first half on a Jaleen Carroll lay-up to make the score 25-6. The Jumbo lead would swell up to as high as 28 just before halftime after a lay-up by Trumann Gettings as Tufts took a 42-14 lead into the intermission.

After the break, Tufts opened the half on a 9-0 spurt capped by a Dylan Thoerner triple to make the score 51-14. FSU got its deficit down to 24 but Tufts pulled away leading by as much as 40 in earning the victory. The 5-0 start for the Jumbos equals the 2019-20 start of 5-0, while Tufts went 6-0 to start the 2016-17 season. The Jumbos saw 14 players get on the scoresheet on Saturday, led by the 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from Thoerner.

Tyler Aronson continued his consistent play this season with 14 points, making four of his seven triples, while Getting collected his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Gettings also tallied two assists, two blocks and two steals in the win, while Carson Cohen added five points and five assists. Jay Dieterle came off the bench to pour in seven points, while Quinn Cain was 2-of-4 from downtown for six points.

First-year Sidney Wooten scored his first career bucket for Tufts with a second-half three-pointer, as the Jumbos were 29-of-65 (44.6 percent) from the floor as a squad. Tufts outscored the Rams 31-12 in bench points, while also tallying a huge 24-0 lead in fast break points. The 39 points were the fewest points allowed for a Tufts team since last year's 61-38 win over Trinity February 4. The 39 points were the fewest allowed in a non-conference game win since November 20, 2012 in a 67-36 win over Regis College.

Joshua-Daniel Okafor paced the Rams (2-5) with 10 points, while Julius Goines added nine points and six rebounds. Tevin Charles and Aveon Woods poured in five points apiece for Framingham State, which shot 15 percent (4-26) in the first half en route to a 24.5 percent shooting clip (13-53) for the contest.

The Jumbos are now 2-0 in the Black Coaches Classic all-time, knocking off Lesley College last year 99-76, also hosted by UMass Boston.

Tufts will be right back at it on Tuesday night, hosting a big home game in Cousens Gymnasium against No. 13 University of St. Joseph (CT) at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
