WALTHAM, MA (December 4, 2022) - First-year
Karen Bei won nine of her 12 epee matches on Sunday when the Tufts University women's fencing team competed at the Brandeis University Invitational.
Facing excellent competition, the Jumbos lost their four matches at the event. They fell 17-10 to Brown, 17-10 against Cornell (#6 in Division 1), 21-6 versus Yale (#12 in Division 1) and 14-13 to host Brandeis (#4 in Division 3).
Their loss to Brown included a 6-3 win in epee, with Bei winning all three of her bouts and senior
Arianna Minassian taking two out of three. Tufts epee was also on top 5-4 in the Cornell match, with Minassian (3-0) and Bei (2-1) leading the way. Junior
Lea Levi had two foil victories in the match against Yale.
In the close result against Brandeis, Tufts won 5-4 in foil with three victories from first-year
Daniella Davia and two by sophomore
Shannon Chen. The Jumbos had 5-4 losses in saber and epee. First-year
Alexia Newell and senior
Emily Valadez both won two saber matches. Bei went 3-0 in epee against the Judges.
Davia finished the day with five wins in foil and Minassian had the same amount in epee.
Tufts (5-6) is now off until hosting an invitational on January 15.
