Women's Squash Loses Kurtz Cup Semifinal to Cornell

CAMBRIDGE - Kurtz Cup top seed Cornell University won 8-1 over fourth-seed Tufts Women's Squash in the semifinals today at the College Squash Association (CSA) National Collegiate Team Championships.

The Jumbos (9-5) will play for third place in the Kurtz Cup bracket tomorrow at 2:30 pm against third-seed Brown University. Cornell and Dartmouth - who defeated Brown 6-3 in today's other semifinal - will play for the Kurtz Cup title on Sunday.

Cornell, the #9-ranked team nationally, started fast today and never looked back versus the 12th-ranked Jumbos. The Big Red won the first five matches by 3-0 scores, with Selena Georgieva at #3, Lily Zelov at #4, Mia Krishnamurthy at #8, Sivasangari Subramaniam at #1 and Wen Li Lai at #2 earning the victories to clinch the match.

Tufts earned its first game victory in the ninth match, where Megan Chen took the third game 11-9 during her 3-1 loss. Tufts' Isa Schneider (pictured) broke up the shutout by winning in the fifth match 11-7, 11-9, 11-13, 8-11, 13-11.

The Big Red finished off the match with wins by Ania LaDow in the seventh spot and McKenna Stolz at #6. Tufts' Diya Sanghi was even 1-1 in the sixth match before falling 11-8, 9-11, 11-3, 11-6.
