INDIANAPOLIS - Tufts' 200 medley relay and junior diver Zach Lawrence both scored on the first day of the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday.
The Jumbo foursome of Nate Tingen, Emmett Adams, Ethan Schreier and Peter LaBarge placed 11th in the 200 medley relay (third in consolation final) with a 1:29.25 mark. They had timed a nearly identical 1:29.22 in the preliminares. It's an honorable mention finish for the Jumbos, the second for Tingen in the pool and the first for the others. (All-American awards were given to all national qualifiers in 2020 after the meet was canceled due to COVID-19 - including Tingen and LaBarge).
Lawrence placed 16th in the three-meter diving event on Wednesday. After qualifying for the consolation final with a score of 419.35 in the three-meter preliminaries on Wednesday, he came back at night and scored 431.30. The 16th-place finish is an honorable mention All-American honor, Lawrence's first. He's Tufts' first diving All-American since Matt Rohrer in 2017.
The 200 medley foursome and Lawrence scored 13 points for Tufts on the first day of the meet, placing the Jumbos in a tie for 20th place.
The Jumbos also had Eric Lundgren competing in the 200 individual medley (1:54.66) and Soeren Euvrard in the 50 freestyle (20.57) today. LaBarge was disqualified in the 50 free due to a false start.
The meet is being held at the IUPUI IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana through Saturday.
