Softball Shut Out By Williams College in Monday's Second Game

Box Score

WILLIAMSTOWN - Elyse Chan from Williams College threw a three-hit shutout as the Ephs defeated Tufts 1-0 in non-divisional NESCAC softball action on Monday. It was the second game of the day at the site for Tufts, who lost 4-2 to WPI earlier.

The Ephs scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the second. Sydney Fleming singled up the middle and Alyana Granados followed with a single through the right side. A fielder's choice sent the runners to second and third, but then Jumbo catcher Keriann Slayton tossed to pitcher Sophia DiCocco to tag out Fleming when she tried to score on a passed ball. However, Granados would then score on a Jumbo error.

The Jumbos would have base runners in each of the first five innings, but their best chance to score came in the sixth. Michelle Adelman singled and was sacrificed to second. A Keila McCabe (pictured) single moved Adelman to third, but she would be cut down at the plate when Williams' Bailey Burger-Moore fielded a ball at first and threw home to Fleming at catcher.

DiCocco pitched well for Tufts, allowing just the unearned run and five hits. McCabe finished with two hits for Tufts (20-9).

Chan struck out seven and walked one in her outing.

The Jumbos will play a pair at Wellesley College on Wednesday.
